I started all this after a high school friend of mine told me about how working at LUSH is so amazing and such a great experience. I decided to look at my local LUSH's Facebooks to see if they were looking to hire. I saw that the two closest locations were both looking to hire Sales Ambassadors, so I emailed both of them my resume and cover letter.
After a couple of days, I received an email from one of the locations that they were doing a hiring party, which is their way of doing group interviews to anyone who is interested in the position. I thought this was such a great way to apply to a job since they got to learn about us before basically turning us away. During this we just demoed products on each other and had individual interviews with the manager. Sadly, I did not get the second interview at this location, which ended up working out in the end because the other location emailed me inviting me to another hiring party.
I attended this hiring party feeling more confident as I had already did one, so I was much more comfortable doing demos on strangers and I thought that the interviewing process was much more thorough than the other location. Right away, I knew I liked this location better and I loved the staff there. They were very sweet and made me feel comfortable. I was so happy to get an email a couple hours after the hiring party saying that I was invited to a Culture Hour, which is another interviewing process where you get to know the manager more and also do more demos on each other. I loved this interview process because it felt very personal and she gave me very great feedback (positive and negative) about my demos. After doing demos, we sat outside the store together and just chatted a bit about her expectations and possible hours. Then she offered me the job and told me the pay. I obviously accepted very excitedly (I quite literally squealed a bit).
The next day I went back up there to fill out the usual paperwork.
I started training later that week. The first day was about the history and what LUSH is about, as well as about their method of selling. Then we talked about shower/body care, such as shower gels, smoothies, conditioners, scrubs, and body butters. At the very end, we did some demo role playing which was fun, but a little nerve-wracking, since the ingredients and benefits are overwhelming. Overtime, it will get easier though.
The second day, we learned skin care and some extras, like bath. So we went over all of their cleansers, fresh face masks, toners, and moisturizers. This was the most overwhelming section I've learned since there are SO MANY products that all do different effects. Again, only experience and studying will help.
The third day was hair care and this was the easiest day, maybe because I was getting more comfortable role playing demos. Also, we role played and then went to do notes, which I think helped shove it in my brain better.
Overall, I am so excited to be a new LUSH employee. Everyone's been nothing but lovely and the smell is so great to work in. I will definitely be doing some haul and review posts on products, so don't worry. (;
